News from Hannibal Regional Hospital

14
Hannibal Regional Healthcare System recently acquired the former Salt River Community Health Center facility located on the north side of Hannibal off of Highway 61.  Following the closure of services provided by Salt River Community Health Center, discussions were pursued between members of the Center’s Board of Directors and Hannibal Regional Healthcare System’s leadership team on how the facility could continue to be used to benefit local residents in need of health services.

“Hannibal Regional Healthcare System felt that this was an opportunity to continue to expand access to health services to the residents in Hannibal and the surrounding area,” stated John C. Grossmeier, President –Hannibal Regional Healthcare System.  “The Salt River Community Health Center’s Board remained very committed to ensuring continuation of healthcare resources to the medically underserved following closure of their services.  Collaborating to transition ownership of the facility has allowed that commitment to continue.”

Hannibal Regional Healthcare System will be using the Highway 61 facility to expand current services.  In addition, the Hannibal Free Clinic will be occupying a portion of the building and relocating from its current location at 711 Grand Avenue. The Hannibal Free Clinic is a local mission offering free, non-emergency, scheduled primary health care for uninsured, low income adults age 18 – 65. As a non-profit community charity, the Hannibal Free Clinic provides free primary healthcare services to patients in the region who are uninsured and living in poverty.

The facility will be opening in July.
