Blood donations often decline during the summer while the need for blood remains constant. Approximately every two seconds a patient needs a blood transfusion. This summer the Red Cross has introduced the Good to Give. Good to Go. promotion as a special way to thank those who make time to give blood during the summer months.
“Summer activities and family vacations have people heading in a lot of directions this time of year. The American Red Cross is asking everyone to add one more place to their list of destinations – a Red Cross blood drive or blood donation center – to help save lives by donating blood,” said Shelly Heiden, CEO of the local Red Cross Blood Services region.
Good to Give. Good to Go. is designed to raise awareness of the need for summer blood donors and to encourage frequent American Red Cross donations. All presenting donors (ages 21 and older) between May 16 and September 7, 2011 will have a chance to win a trip for four to Orlando, Florida each time they visit the Red Cross. Presenting donors of all ages are eligible to win other fun summer prizes during specific holiday time-frames!
