Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Bone & Joint Center is pleased to announce a new program for orthopedic surgical patients and their families. The hospital’s new program, called the Ambassador Club, is drawing on the experience of former total joint replacement patients as volunteer Ambassadors.
Ambassadors are former patients who have had surgery and are willing to share information on their personal surgical and recovery experiences, thereby paving the way for others to achieve a healthier, more active lifestyle. The Ambassadors will attend the pre-surgical joint replacement class to speak with upcoming patients and their families to answer questions about what they can expect through the recovery process.
Ms. Jean Kane, the inaugural member of the Ambassador Club, had her total knee replacement at the Hannibal Regional Hospital Bone & Joint Center just nine weeks ago. Ms. Kane shared her recent experience with the pre-surgical class for upcoming total joint replacement patients and answered their questions on what to expect throughout the process.
“I had a great experience at Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Bone and Joint Center. It was very convenient to be able to come to one location here in Hannibal to have my surgery and follow up care,” stated Ms. Kane. “I am looking forward to volunteering and participating in the Ambassador Club to share my experience and encourage other patients as they go through the program.”
Thousands undergo total joint replacement surgery annually. Hannibal Regional Hospital, in collaboration with Midwest Orthopedic Specialists, leads the region in number of patients served. Board certified providers, which include Richard Baumann, M.D., Christopher Bieniek, M.D. and Curtis Burton, M.D., lead an experienced orthopedic team in caring for patients.
Individuals interested in participating in the program or volunteering as an Ambassador, please contact Tim Polley, Orthopedic Service Line Manager at (573) 822-8145.
